Our extremely comprehensive AKC Star puppy class will teach you how to handle, groom, and housebreak your puppy as well as begin to learn your pup’s body language. You’ll get answers from a professional trainer/breeder with 20+ years of experience to the many questions that crop up with a new puppy. He or she will also learn how to sit and down with a food lure and begin to love the leash! Puppies should be 8 to 16 weeks old to begin, depending on breed. Please pre-register for this 6 week class and send us a copy of your pup’s clean fecal from your vet prior to the first class

Students in this 5 week course will learn how to capture and keep your dog’s attention, building the bond and increasing communication between dog and handler. They will learn the value of using marker words, how to walk their dog on a loose leash, sit and stay, down and stay, learn on-leash recalls, sit for petting, and leave items including food alone when told to. We also work hard on manners—no jumping on, teeth on, stealing things, bolting out of doors, etc. This is a small group class. It's great if anyone who is going to handle the dog can come to all of the classes. If that's impossible, one handler who can teach others is also great.

Large dogs over 4 months, small dogs over 6 months are welcome in this class. No prerequisites are required.

Obedience 2 is the beginning of our advanced level courses. To be included in this course, teams are expected to be able to execute all Level 1 commands without correction. In this 5 week course we will be adding distance, distraction and duration to basic obedience commands, learn “go to place” command, the stand stay, say hello nicely, work on fading handler cues, and other higher level skills. Students who have achieved this level should know that this may be an ongoing course—ie, you may stay in this group for some time before being able to execute all commands without aids and moving to Level 3.

Team must have completed a basic obedience course, either with us or elsewhere and be approved by our trainers for this 6 week course.

AKC Canine Good Citizen training is the gold standard for dogs in our communities. It involves a 10 station test at the end of a 5 week course. Testing is not mandatory, but is available at your convenience, or take the class as your next step after Obedience Level 1 class.

FYI~If you choose to test, your dog must be 6 months at the time of the CGC test.

AKC Rally® event as any team sport: You and your dog navigate a course, side-by-side, as you steer him through a course of 10-20 different signs. Each of these signs provides instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. The dog and handler move continuously throughout the course with the dog under control at the handler’s left side. There is a clear sense of teamwork between the dog and handler both during and between the numbered signs. Although each performance is timed, having a good race time is not the goal; it’s all about working as a team while performing the skills, with the dog under control. This 5 week class will be about learning the rules and signs. This is a level 3 course.

AKC Tricks is a 5 week course that teaches your dog behaviors that come from agility, obedience, and Rally. It’s great fun is to add to your therapy dog visits, or with your new puppy, or if you’re taking a break and want to keep your pup in class. There is testing available every week, so whenever your pup is ready, we can test for your title and you can move up a level. If you're in it just for fun, that's great too! All are welcome, there are no pre-requisites for this class.

We are proud to offer e-collar training the force free way. This private course includes three classes here at Alpha Dog and/or on the road, to ensure rock solid obedience and/or recall. (Students will supply their own e-collar. We like E-collar Technologies brands because it pairs with our training equipment. Your collar must have stim levels 1-100 or more.)

Please make sure you are familiar with how to operate your collar before the class begins, and that collar and remote are charged and ready to go for class

Our most challenging course, Level 3 is for teams who have completed Ob 2 and/or CGC and are looking for more. We concentrate on competition type training in this 5 week class—perfecting heel, position, and working on the elements of the AKC Companion Dog title.

This 5 week class begins outdoors at Alpha Dog, but will progress to other locations. Please bring a bait bag, a hungry dog, high value bait and a long line to all classes (15-20 foot only, we like the ones at Cody’s Creations) as well as your 6 foot leash. After your team passes the AKC CGC test, you’re on to our 6 week Therapy evaluation training. We use the Therapy Dogs United test. The training and testing ensures that your dog is able to remain calm in difficult, distracting situations with many different populations. Some of these distractions include dropped food, medical equipment, multiple excited people, being hugged by strangers, etc.

Our in-public class starts with learning simple but effective commands to teach your dog how to navigate in the human world seemlessly. This FUN 5 week course is for alumni students who need to brush up on manners--jumping on humans or counters, improved heeling, rock solid LEAVE IT, place on command from distance, ignore other dogs in a social setting.

If you have a young dog who needs training but you're all thumbs/crazy schedule/uncomfortable starting, or would just like someone else to do the ground work--we are here! One of our trainers will take your dog into their home and teach your pup the following: heel, sit, down, come, stay, place and door manners. There will be no teeth on skin and no jumping on people. This 2 week course comes with a 5 week group class as a follow up and reinforcer for you and your dog. Dog must be crate trained and we will ask for a clean fecal within two weeks of drop off. Program consists of either intro to basic obedience (heel, sit, down, door manners, greeting manners) or for dogs who have already gone through our obedience level one, a brush up of basic obedience (heel, sit, down, come, stay, leave it) and door manners/greeting manners or targeting specific problem behaviors. Your pup will have a minimum of five lessons a day and you will have a short lesson with a trainer when you pick up your pup each day.

WE’RE BACK! We are so happy to be back to offering in home training, it’s how we began our business and we love doing it! In home training is custom tailored to your dog and your family’s needs, but generally begins with basic obedience—sit, down, come, stay, place, and manners (no feet or teeth on me or my stuff, wait at doors, etc.). We are beginning with an introduction to K9 Fitness for all dogs—any age, any level of fitness. This is a FUN 5 week class, great for learning communication and bonding with a new to you dog or a puppy. Please bring a very hungry dog and 2 cups of small, soft treats with you along with your bait bag! .Cost is $225.00

Scent work is an extremely popular introduction to teaching your dog to hunt for odor in a fun, positive way. Scent work is a great way to burn off excess puppy energy, boost confidence in a shy dog, and bond with your dog. This skill easily transfers to the home environment, so you can play any time you like! All are welcome in this beginner class. $225.00
